Raccoons can become a nuisance in many ways. Females have learned that human homes are a great place to raise young - cool in the summer and warm in the winter. They will destroy fascia boards, tear off shingles, and remove siding and chimney caps just to gain access to your home. Once inside an attic, they often tear off insulation paper, rip open heating/cooling ducts, tear insulation off pipes, etc. They can also raid trash cans, take pet food left outside and damage gardens.

Typically in the springtime, we get calls from people complaining of raccoons in the attic or under decks or foundations. This is usually when babies are born and the mother raccoon can become very aggressive during this time. If you have a raccoon on your property, give us a call and we can remove it for you.

 

RACCOON DISEASES

Raccoons are a common carrier of rabies, a potentially fatal disease. They also carry canine distemper, which can be deadly to dogs. Raccoon feces may contain Baylisascaris which is Raccoon Roundworm. Humans can potentially breathe in the spores of the roundworm and become seriously infected.

Raccoons are easy to recognize with their distinctive black mask and ringed tail. Adults generally range from 10-40 pounds and are 2-3 feet in length. A mother raccoon is very protective of its litter of 3-5 young, usually born in the springtime. Raccoons are nocturnal so they sleep during the day. If you see a raccoon active during the day, DO NOT approach it, call a wildlife removal professional immediately.
